Saab Automobile AB is a Swedish brand that is owned by General Motors.  It holds the exclusive automobile royal warrant by the H.M., the King of Sweden. Since its inception, Saab has built a reputation for iconoclasm and originality in both design and engineering.  It is ingenious in turbocharged performance and is renowned for being a pioneer in both safety and green technologies.

Interestingly, the company began as Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget in 1937, producing airplanes for the Swedish Air Force.  As World War II was ending, it was apparent that the company's market for military aircraft would decline and after considering other options, Saab decided to move into the automobile market.  Some of the early cars such as the two-strokers, V4s and Saab 99 were quite successful in rally sport, notably the 96 in the 1960s RAC Rally and Monte Carlo Rally, driven by Erik Carlsson.

Saab hit a slump in the 1980s and 1990s and had to close the Malmö plant in 1991. In 1993  the 'New Generation' Saab 900, was launched, using the same platform as the Opel Vectra. In 1995, Saab declared a profit for the very first time since 1988.  The Saab 900 and the Saab 900 convertible would hit record sales in the mid to late nineties before being replaced in the late nineties into the present day by the Saab 9-3 and Saab 9-5. These two cars have seen recent facelifts to complete the image that of which Saab is so famous for, the sleek, sporty yet practical, safe yet speedy, widely innovative and reliable modern car. The 9-3 sports saloon, 9-3 convertible, 9-5 saloon and 9-5 estate have allowed Saab to have a car in almost every area of the industry all over the world.

Saab continues to produce automobiles of good quality, that remain  at the cutting edge of technology and design.
