We asked 1,000 Brits how far they believe they can drive, on average, once the fuel warning light has lit up and 37% think it’s less than 20 miles.

However, our research has revealed that in an emergency, you’d actually be able to drive over double that distance (around 50 miles), before running out of petrol.
