Hyundai i10 car insurance

There are lots of reasons to buy a nifty little car, especially if you live in a city. They’re great for weaving through congestion and a breeze to park in awkward spots and in the Hyundai i10’s case, you can still pack in a few weeks’ worth of shopping in the boot. Another attractive thing about this nippy little run around is the insurance – at the lower (and therefore less expensive) end of the insurance spectrum it’ll help save you money too – so here’s a quick rundown of what the i10’s got to offer.

Why the i10?

The i10 is considered one of the best city cars on the market – and that’s no mean feat with the likes of the VW Up! vying for attention. The i10 is also cute to look at – not something that can be said for all city cars.

The entry level model (the enigmatically named ‘S’) is pretty basic – electric front windows and central locking are the fanciest bits of kit (we did say it was no frills). But the ‘Premium’ model adds a whole load of gizmos such as alloy wheels, electrically adjustable heated mirrors, LED daytime running headlights (which help keep your car clearly visible on dimly lit days) as well as completing the set and giving you electric rear windows.

Being part of the Hyundai family, the i10 is also reliable and boasts the Hyundai unlimited mileage five year warranty as well which should give you peace of mind.

There are two choices of engine size, the 1 and 1.2 litre with the latter being comfortable on any road and not just those in cramped towns and cities. The speediest model is the 1.2 petrol manual which can get from 0 to 62 mph in 12.3 seconds.

It’s also one of the quietest city cars and rather than feeling like there’s about to be a hull breach when you hit higher (although not quite warp) speeds, tests have shown it’s incredibly good at keeping out wind and road noise.

Room for a little one?

The i10 is roomy, it’s got the biggest boot of all the city cars – 252 litres (just pipping the VW Up! by a litre) and it’s got plenty of leg room front and back. With wide opening doors and a high roof, it’s also very practical for car seats and getting kids settled in the back.

Up front and there’s space for life’s little essentials, such as a cubby hole for your phone to rest in as it charges and not just one, but two cup holders so front passengers no longer run the risk of balancing hot drinks on laps or suffer burning fingers.

So what’s the insurance like then?

Your premiums will be as unique as you – insurers consider various factors such as your age, claims history, how many miles you drive, where you live and even what job you do. But you’ll be pleased to know that the Hyundai i10 is available in some of the lowest insurance groups there are:

Model Insurance group Car tax band
S 1 Band B (£20 per year)
S Air 1 Band B (£20 per year)
SE 1-4 Bands B, C or E (£20, £30, £130 respectively)
SE Blue 1 Band A (£0 per year)
Go! Special Edition 2 Band B (£20 per year)
Premium 1-4 Bands B, C or E (£20, £30, £130 respectively)
Premium SE 5 Band E (£130 per year)

It’s also good news for young drivers, the i10 is one of the cheaper cars to insure for drivers aged between 17 and 24, costing an average of £838.08*. Young drivers opting for an i10 could save themselves an average of £324.15* when compared to insuring a Vauxhall Corsa (the most popular car for young drivers).

You can of course lower your insurance even more by looking at telematics (black box) insurance where your driving’s monitored. Other areas to consider include increasing your excess which often reduces your premium (but make sure you can actually afford the excess if you made a claim).

Also fitting your car with an approved security device or system will help as will being able to store it in a secure garage overnight. You should also try and be as accurate as possible when it comes to declaring how many miles you do a year, rounding up could push you up into the next price band.
