Compare Mazda 2 Car Insurance

Getting a car isn’t just about how shiny it is or how fast it goes, sometimes it’s the more mundane stuff like boot space and reliability that makes one car better than another – beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all. So if you’re considering a Mazda 2 but want to find out a bit more about those practical things, then this is the guide for you.

Why choose the Mazda 2?

Perhaps it’s not the most imaginatively named car – it’s the smallest that the car manufacturerMazda, has available (confusingly there’s no Mazda 1) but who said great things can’t come in small packages?
The Mazda 2’s strongest features are its safety and reliability. According to independent surveys, the Mazda 2 has historically come first out of 22 other competitor cars which is certainly something to shout about.

In terms of safety features, the Mazda 2 shows that small can mean mighty as it comes with no less than six airbags, hill hold control, tyre monitoring and something called ‘dynamic stability control.’ For the uninitiated that means your Mazda 2 will automatically take control of itself if it detects skidding – how clever – and something that will make driving on wet British roads a bit safer. Plus, if you wanted to bulk out the safety features some more, then the mid-range models and above come with a lane departure warning system.

One of the other key attractions of the Mazda 2 is its infotainment system which is one of the best out of all its other supermini rivals. For the best option you’ll need to look at the mid-range model (the SE-L versions and above), this comes with a seven inch touchscreen making navigating around the system intuitive and faff free.

What options do I have?

You do have a choice of engine types – there are two 1.5 litre petrol engines to choose from and one diesel.

The petrol versions come in 74 bhp, 89 bhp or 113bhp options – if you have no idea what these mean, bear with us. The measurement ‘bhp’ stands for ‘brake horsepower’ and it basically measures how powerful the engine is and how fast it can go – so the higher the number, the more powerful the car. So if its speed you need then you’ll probably want to opt for the 113bhp petrol version which can go from 0 to 62 mph in 8.7 seconds – beat that Usain Bolt.

If you know you’ll be racking up miles, the diesel option is for you offering 83.1 mpg and 0-62 in 10.1 seconds. Carbon emissions on the diesel are also below the threshold for car tax so you’ll pay nothing. The diesel version also comes in the choice of automatic or manual gearbox so there’s a Mazda 2 for everyone.

mazda 2 car insurance

Young drivers won’t go far wrong with a Mazda 2 either as it’s one of the cheapest cars to insure. With the average premium coming in at £557.43*.

You can of course lower the cost of insurance by looking at things like agreeing a telematics insurance policy. A ‘black box’ will monitor your driving, if you’re any good then you could see your premiums reduce more quickly than through traditional methods.

Keeping your car in a secure garage or on a drive overnight can also help lower the cost of insurance as can being accurate about the number of miles you do each year. As basic as it sounds, rounding up the number of miles you do could push you up into the next price bracket – just remember to be honest.
