Are black box policies good?

What is telematics?

Telematics, also known as a black box policy, is a way to get an insurance policy more closely linked to your driving style. A clever device measures how well you drive and gives that data to your car insurance provider. It could be an app on your phone, a dongle-like device or a discreet black box fitted to your car.

The safer you drive, potentially the better your deal.

Drive safe and save

By having one of these clever devices it’s possible to prove that you drive safely. It will track your location, how long you’re driving, how fast you travel, how harshly you brake and the quality of your cornering. Either when you come to renew, or on a quarterly basis depending on your insurer, your premiums will update based on all this data. Potentially meaning a cheaper deal for you.

How you drive. Not how you look.

This all means that you are charged based on how well you drive. You, not someone like you. You won’t be considered similar to the average driver. You’ll have your own, tailored premium. Perfect if you’re in a higher risk group.
