Who are Mazda?
Popular Japanese car manufacturer Mazda was founded in Hiroshima in 1920 and started out producing three-wheeled trucks. In 1960 the factory rolled out its first car – the R360 coupe, and by 1963 one million cars had come off the production line. Just four years after that, Mazda was selling cars in Europe.
Today, the cheapest Mazda on sale new in the UK is the Mazda 2 which is in insurance group 9 and 10. Their most expensive models are the CX-5, which is a mid- sized SUV, and the sporty soft topped Mazda MX-5 Recaro, which is a group 29 car.
Looking at the reviews of the new Mazda MX-5 it looks likes Mazda have hit the spot in providing an affordable sports car in a mid-range insurance group.
Here at comparethemarket.com, our data shows that the MX-5 comes up in fourth place, beaten by the Mazda 6, the Mazda 2, and the most popular model according to our stats, the Mazda 3.
Second hand Mazdas are a popular choice too with 39% of people finding second-hand cars under £8,999. In 2014 Auto Express named the Mazda MX-5 the most reliable used sports car. Warranty Direct also collected data to name the UK’s top ten second hand cars and the Mazda 3 (04-09) came fourth. In 2008 the Mazda 2 was voted World Car of the Year. The Mazda 6 is also reviewed well with What Car? Saying that it “it does most things well and nothing badly, so it’s an excellent second hand buy.”
