A simples guide

Mazda Car Insurance

Do you already own a Mazda and are looking for new provider of Mazda car insurance? Or are you thinking of buying one, new or second hand, but are not sure how affordable the insurance would be for your sporty little number? Well let’s see if we can help you.

Who are Mazda?

Popular Japanese car manufacturer Mazda was founded in Hiroshima in 1920 and started out producing three-wheeled trucks.  In 1960 the factory rolled out its first car – the R360 coupe, and by 1963 one million cars had come off the production line. Just four years after that, Mazda was selling cars in Europe.

Today, the cheapest Mazda on sale new in the UK is the Mazda 2 which is in insurance group 9 and 10.  Their most expensive models are the CX-5, which is a mid- sized SUV, and the sporty soft topped Mazda MX-5 Recaro, which is a group 29 car.

Looking at the reviews of the new Mazda MX-5 it looks likes Mazda have hit the spot in providing an affordable sports car in a mid-range insurance group.

Here at comparethemarket.com, our data shows that the MX-5 comes up in fourth place, beaten by the Mazda 6, the Mazda 2, and the most popular model according to our stats, the Mazda 3.

Second hand Mazdas are a popular choice too with 39% of people finding second-hand cars under £8,999. In 2014 Auto Express named the Mazda MX-5 the most reliable used sports car. Warranty Direct also collected data to name the UK’s top ten second hand cars and the Mazda 3 (04-09) came fourth. In 2008 the Mazda 2 was voted World Car of the Year. The Mazda 6 is also reviewed well with What Car? Saying that it “it does most things well and nothing badly, so it’s an excellent second hand buy.”

How much does Mazda insurance cost on average?

It’s hard to give a ‘one size fits all’ figure because insurance quotes depend on many things as well as the model of car you drive. Details such as your age and driving experience, where you live and what you do for a job are also factored in to assess your insurance risk. But the data below should give you an idea of the average insurance price for the top four Mazda cars:

- Mazda MX-5   £413,89

- Mazda 6           £448,23

- Mazda 2           £419,76

- Mazda 3           £451,35

Our average premiums are based on all our customer quotes, from people with different age ranges, addresses and driving histories. You may find a cheaper or more expensive quote based on your personal circumstances.

Will my insurance be cheaper if I have an alarm, or other security measures fitted on my Mazda?

Yes, it could help if you have a car alarm or an immobiliser, and even more so if they are approved by the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre, which is known as Thatcham. Around 25% of insurance companies confirmed they would offer discounts if the car had security measures fitted on the car.  However, you may need to speak directly with your insurer to see these reductions reflected in your premium.
