A black box policy
If you are a young driver and you have passed your practical driving test, but you are still inexperienced, Collingwood will have a black box fixed into your car. This lets Collingwood assess your driving data to make sure that you have the responsible driving habits they require.
The box is fitted by a professional engineer within 28 days after you take out your Collingwood car insurance policy. It isn’t much bigger than a mobile phone and it will be put behind your dashboard so you won’t see it. A great benefit of having it in your car is that it is fitted with GPS tracking which makes your car easier to find if it is stolen.
Once it is fitted it will be activated and from then on your driving will be monitored. You will be given feedback by Collingwood, which will help you to understand any mistakes you’re making so you can put them right. It will also tell you when you’re doing well. You can access your box from your computer, tablet or phone through your personal dashboard.
The type of things Collingwood are looking for when you drive are the way that you accelerate, corner and brake. They want you to drive smoothly, without being aggressive, or making sudden moves. They can also see how much time you have spent driving, your location, your mileage, the time of day that you drive and if you drive too fast. The black box could help you to become a more confident and better skilled driver.
