M&S Premier Car Insurance

Marks and Spencer is a popular, well-established retail company, which provides car insurance through their banking division, which was launched in 2012, replacing M&S Money.

They provide two levels of car insurance, in order that you can choose cover that suits you and your budget. There is Standard and Premier cover. Premier has more benefits and a higher level of cover.

M&S Car Insurance have a UK based claims department which you can call on 0344 412 2160, 7 days a week, 24 hours of the day. You’ll also have your own personal claims handler that will manage your claim for you.

Terms and conditions will apply to the benefits you’re offered, so it’s important to check your policy wording before you purchase.

Comprehensive policy

Car Insurance with M&S will give you the following benefits with a comprehensive policy:

  • Windscreen cover including sunroofs.
  • Cover for audio and navigation equipment.
  • Personal belongings.
  • Medical cover – You’ll be covered for the costs of emergency medical treatment after an accident.
  • Theft of keys cover – If your keys are stolen, you’ll be covered for new keys and replacement locks.
  • European Travel – Travel in the EU for up to 90 days in any period of insurance.
  • Child car seat.
  • Alternative accommodation – If your car is in an accident and can’t be driven, you’ll be covered for a night’s stay in a hotel if you can’t get home.
  • Courtesy car –  Whilst your own car is being repaired after an accident (subject to availability).
  • Uninsured Driver Protection – If you have an accident and the other driver isn’t insured, you won’t lose your no claims bonus if you have to make a claim on your own insurance.
  • 3 year guarantee on repairs carried out at approved repairers.

Premier cover

If you opt to take out M&S Premier cover, the following are included with your policy. They can also be purchased as optional extras for Standard policyholders.

  • Motor Legal Protection – helps you to claim for uninsured losses after an accident that wasn’t your fault. Uninsured losses can include a claim for personal injury, loss of earnings, car hire costs, the reimbursement of your policy excess and any other out of pocket expenses you incur.
  • Guaranteed replacement car – whilst your own car is being repaired after an accident.
  • Replacement car if your car is written-off or stolen.

Premier insurance also insures the person (rather than the car) for breakdown cover, so if you’re not in your own car but you’re a passenger in someone else’s, it doesn’t matter, you are still covered by your breakdown insurance.

RAC Breakdown Cover is included with Premier Insurance, but it can be purchased as an optional extra if you have Standard Insurance. The benefits of Breakdown cover with the RAC are:

As long as you’re over a quarter of a mile away from home, the RAC will come out and try to fix the problem at the roadside. If it can’t be fixed, then your vehicle will be towed to the nearest repair garage, or somewhere you choose within a 10- mile radius.

Includes Roadside Assistance, but if your car can’t be mended, then you can choose a destination anywhere in the UK mainland and your car and up to 8 passengers will transported to that destination.

At Home

If your car won’t start outside your home, or it breaks down within a quarter of a mile of where you live, an RAC mechanic will come out to you and try and fix the problem. If it can’t be fixed, then your car will be towed to a garage or a storage facility within 10 miles.

Onward Travel

Alternative accommodation, a courtesy car or alternative transport to get you and up to 8 passengers to a destination of your choice within mainland UK.
