Privilege Car Insurance (DriveXpert)

Set up in 1994, Privilege provides car cover to people from various walks of life.

DriveXpert, from Privilege, is black box insurance, also known as telematics insurance that could offer younger drivers discounts for being a safe driver. So whether you’re cruising along a country road in a convertible or pootling through town in a Punto, the safer you drive, the more you can potentially save.

Terms, conditions and limits do apply. So it’s important to check the policy before you buy, to make sure the cover’s right for you.

Comprehensive Car Insurance with DriveXpert covers you for:

  • Courtesy car as standard, when you use their approved repairers
  • If your car is written off, they'll give you a new car of the same make and model if yours is under 12 months old and you're the first and only registered owner
  • If you're hit by an uninsured driver and the accident isn’t your fault, they'll cover your excess and your No Claim Discount won’t be affected. The registration number, make and model of the other car, and the other driver's details are needed to make a claim
  • Repairs guaranteed for five years, when you use their approved repairer
  • Child car-seat cover
  • Windscreen cover, including sunroofs
  • Cover for your personal belongings and audio and navigation equipment

You can also add on the following extras for an additional cost, if you want wider cover:

  • Motor legal protection – Will help you to claim your uninsured losses if you have an accident that’s not your fault
  • Guaranteed Hire Car Plus – They’ll provide you a hire car which is a similar physical size to yours if your car is damaged as a result of an accident or fire, or is stolen and not recovered
  • No claim discount protection – If you have 4 or more years no claim discount and no more than one fault claim within the past 3 years for all drivers combined, you can protect your discount
  • Breakdown cover – Privilege breakdown cover, in partnership with Green Flag

About DriveXpert and Telematics insurance

If you’re under 26 and have a car that’s made after 1996, you can get a DriveXpert plug-in.

To get started, all you need to do is follow the easy instructions and plug the device in to your car. Then once you’re on the road, Privilege will collect data on how you break, accelerate and corner. They’ll then use this data to look at your driving habits, good and bad.

After you have driven a few times, see how you’re doing on the DriveXpert portal. The better your score, the more discount you could receive at your next renewal.

The box also has GPS, which helps the police to find your car if it’s been stolen, or provides information if you’ve had an accident.
