What are Mastercard cards?

Mastercard cards process the payments when you use your credit card or debit card. Mastercard itself doesn’t issue the cards. If your card is processed by Mastercard, it will come with a Mastercard logo.

What is the difference between Mastercard and Visa?

The differences between Mastercard and Visa credit cards are very few as they’re both globally accepted, but some countries favour one over the other.

Where can you use Mastercard cards?

Mastercard debit cards are accepted at millions of retailer locations worldwide, including restaurants, hotels and online retailers. You can use Mastercard debit cards to pay your monthly bills. They also support cashback and can be used for cash withdrawals and balance enquiries at ATMs.

Mastercard credit cards are accepted in 24 million locations worldwide, making it the most widely accepted credit card.

What card is right for you?

Mastercard offer a range of cards, allowing you to find the right one for you:

Purchase cards: you can spread the cost of your spending using a 0% purchase card.

Use abroad cards: you can use your Mastercard card to spend abroad, typically with low fees and favourable exchange rates.

Reward cards: earn money when you spend with a cashback card or earn points and vouchers with a rewards card.

Paying off another balance: consolidate your debts with a 0% balance transfer or money transfer card.

Building your credit: if you’re worried about a low credit score, then a credit building card could help you out.

What is Mastercard SecureCode?

Mastercard SecureCode gives you an additional layer of security to protect you against the unauthorised use of your card when you shop online.  This service is provided by the bank that issues your card.

During the check-out process, you may be prompted by your card issuer to enter your code to ensure you’re the person making the transaction.

What are the benefits of using a Mastercard card?

Extended warranty

When you pay with Mastercard you can double the original manufacturer's or store brand warranty for up to one year. So, if a retailer offers six months’ warranty on an item, it will be extended to 12 months if bought using a Mastercard.

Price protection

If you buy something using your Mastercard card, then find the same item for a lower price within 60 days from the date of purchase, you may be reimbursed for the price difference.

Purchase protection

If you buy an item using your Mastercard card, it will be covered by purchase protection for 90 days from the day you bought it. This could allow you to claim your money back if the item is damaged or stolen.

24/7 global assistance

With Mastercard Global Service you can get emergency assistance anytime, anywhere and in any language. Mastercard Global Service helps you with reporting a lost or stolen card, getting an emergency card replacement or cash advance, finding an ATM location and answering any questions about your account.

The rewards vary depending on the card that you have. For example, Mastercard offer exclusive discounts and tickets to its customers. If you have a World Elite Mastercard you’ll be offered premium benefits.
