Compare Barclays credit cards

This year, it’s exactly half a century since Barclays Bank created the company Barclaycard and issued the UK’s first credit card. Barclaycard gave customers who didn’t bank with Barclays the ability to obtain a credit card, and today the business still provides many different types designed to meet customers varying needs.

Whichever type of credit card you’re looking for, there’s likely to be a Barclaycard to suit you, so let’s look at some of the options.

Pay 0% on your balance transfers and purchases

If you’ve built up debt on one of your credit cards, you might be able to take advantage of a 0% balance transfer card and pay off the balance without paying interest.

You may also want to spend big on an item or perhaps simply shop for Christmas without paying interest. 0% interest is available on new purchases with some Barclaycard credit cards.

In fact, Barclaycard have seven different cards offering various combinations of 0% interest on transfers and new purchases, giving you a great chance to find a card tailored to your needs.

The Barclaycard Freedom Rewards card allows you 12 months’ interest free to pay off a balance and charges only 0.15% as a transfer fee. You’ll also earn freedom points to get yourself some great rewards.

Another great aspect of this card is that you’ll also pay 0% interest on purchases for the first 12 months too. After that, your card converts to a 21.9% standard APR.

There are also 4 types of Barclaycard Platinum cards which offer 18, 24, 32 and 37 months’ interest free on balance transfers. On some of the cards there are transfer fees payable so be sure to check the detail.

These cards offer varying terms when it comes to 0% interest on new purchases too. For example, the Barclaycard Platinum 25 Month Balance Transfer and Purchase Credit Card offers 25 months’ interest free on both balances transferred and new purchases.

Credit Rating builder card

If your credit rating isn’t what it could be, the Barclaycard Initial credit card might be for you. Using a credit card and paying off the balance on time will help your credit rating improve. The card offers 0% interest for the first three months but then converts to a 34.9% APR. It therefore makes sense to try and pay the balance off in full each month once the 0% period expires to avoid paying interest.
