Who is my energy supplier?

If you don’t know who your energy supplier is, there a few things you can do to find out. There are different methods for electricity and gas, so let’s go through who you need to contact.

Who is my electricity supplier?

To find out who your electricity supplier is, you’ll first need to contact your region’s distribution network operator (DNO). While they don’t supply your energy, they should be able to help you find out who does. Just look for your region’s DNO below:

If you’re not sure which region you fall under, you can use the Energy Networks Association postcode search tool.

Who is my gas supplier?

To find out who your gas supplier is, you have a couple of options:

  • The easiest way is to use the Find My Supplier website, which lets you enter your postcode to find out who supplies your gas.
  • Alternatively, you can call 0870 608 1524 for the meter number helpline. Calls to this number are charged.

Who should I contact in an emergency?

If you smell gas or suspect there’s been a gas leak, call the National Gas Emergency Service straight away on 0800 111 999. You won’t be charged for this call, and an engineer will be sent round to your property as soon as possible.

In the event of a power cut, call 105 for free. You’ll be connected to your local electricity network operator’s emergency line.

Who do I contact if my energy supplier goes bust?

If your energy supplier collapses, you won’t need to contact anyone. Ofgem, the UK’s energy regulator, has protective measures in place for customers of suppliers gone bust. They’ll arrange for your tariff to be transferred to a new supplier, with no disruption to your energy.

However, once the transfer is complete, you’ll usually be placed on your new supplier’s standard variable tariff, which is generally its most expensive.

Compare with us today to see if you could save any money on your energy tariff. ble to advise you whether you could be on a cheaper tariff.
