A simples guide

Are all energy suppliers listed on the comparethemarket.com website?

Switching energy providers can be a great way to save significant amounts of money. On average, consumers could save up to £210** per year on your energy bill by switching supplier.

It’s important when you’re considering switching energy company that you have what is known as a ‘whole of market’ comparison. This means that all tariffs available are shown to you based on your needs and the selections you make.

Do you have all energy suppliers listed on your site?

Yes, we commit to showing all energy tariffs available to you (not just the big six), based on your needs and the selections you make.

When it comes to energy suppliers, we don’t choose favourites. We only offer an impartial and independent comparison – we rank our tariffs by the amount of money that you can save.

Do you get paid by all suppliers when I switch?

No, we only work with certain suppliers. When you switch to deals with those suppliers and save money, we get paid a commission by them.

As we’ve got a partnership in place with these providers we can make the process of switching even easier in these cases by starting the process for you. All you’ll need to do is confirm your personal details and we’ll contact the suppliers for you to get the switch moving.

You can see which deals we provide switching support for because we’ve specifically flagged them in the search results. If you only want to see deals where we can help you with the switch, there’s also an option to filter your results in this way.

If you want to pursue a deal that we don’t currently provide switching support for, we’ll still provide you with all the details of what you’ll save, but this time you’ll need to contact the company yourself, re-enter your details and start the switching process directly with them.

Shouldn’t I just buy direct from providers?

It’s our job to compare the market for you, and we make it really simple for you to compare deals by showing prices, savings and details side-by-side.

Are rules changing around what comparison sites must do?

In 2014 the government asked the Competition and Market Authority (CMA) to take a comprehensive look at the energy market and see if improvements could be made for the benefit of consumers.

The CMA produced its report in the last week of June this year, so the findings are still being digested.

Finding out what you could save by switching your energy suppliers really is simple. Enter a few details (it’s even better and quicker if you’ve your energy bill to hand), and we’ll present back to you all the tariffs along with the savings you can make.
