British Gas Offer

One-year fixed rate tariff with British Gas for new and existing smart meter customers, including free 12-month boiler breakdown cover. Available for a limited time only!

What’s the big deal?

British Gas is offering a one-year fixed-rate energy tariff to comparethemarket.com customers who already have a smart meter, or who make an appointment to have one installed by British Gas before 31 July 2018. This great deal could save you up to £225* a year on your energy bills.

The HomeEnergy Exclusive Mar 2019 tariff, costing an average of £910*, could take care of your gas and electricity for the next 12 months. This fixed-rate deal is one of the best value gas and electricity you’ll find from a renowned Big Six supplier with great customer service. What’s more, by switching to this tariff, you’ll also be eligible for Boiler and Controls replacement cover for a full 12 months in the event your boiler breaks down – provided you don’t already have a Home Services product with British Gas or a product with any other provider that gives you the same cover.

Plus, the warm home discount also applies to anyone eligible – bonus!

*British Gas tariff costs an average £910 a year which is £225 less than the current typical cost of a UK gas and electricity bill of £1,135 a year. This is for an average UK home paying by monthly direct debit on a standard gas and electricity tariff with a Big Six supplier. Average usage is currently defined by the energy regulator Ofgem as 12,000 kWh of gas and 3,100 kWh of electricity per year.  If your usage is higher or lower than this, the rates will be fixed and the amount you pay will depend on your usage. Prices correct as of 12 February 2018.

Who’s eligible for the tariff?

The deal is available to comparethemarket.com customers who have had a quote or previously bought any product through our website. Plus, you’ll need to have a smart meter, or make an appointment to have one installed by British Gas before 31 July 2018.

You’ll also need to switch both your gas and electricity to this tariff, pay by monthly direct debit and agree to use paperless billing either using the British Gas online account or App. The deal is available to new and existing British Gas customers too, in all British Gas service areas.

Who is eligible for the tariff

What else should I know?

The HomeEnergy tariff comes with 12-month free Boiler and Controls Cover included.

It’s worth noting that the Boiler and Controls Cover only applies to those who don’t currently have an existing Home Services agreement with EHL British Gas (including HomeCare, Plumbing and Drains cover, Gas Appliance Cover and Kitchen Appliance Cover) or a product with any other provider that gives the same cover.

The cover, which starts within 21 days of your tariff start date, includes:
- Boiler and Controls breakdown cover with a £99 excess for each repair
- Parts and labour (limits apply, see terms and conditions below)
- Unlimited call outs, giving you peace of mind if things go wrong - day or night.

Replacement for your boiler is also included if it can’t be repaired, provided it’s less than seven years old. If your boiler is between seven and ten years old, it’s still covered provided it was installed by British Gas and was always covered under a HomeCare agreement or warranty from British Gas.

To see what isn’t included, and for full details of the Boiler and Controls Cover, see page 16 of www.britishgas.co.uk/homecare-terms

In line with Ofcom regulations, you have a 14-day ‘cooling off’ period after taking the new tariff, during which time there’s no exit fees of you change your mind and cancel your new policy. But if you choose to switch to another supplier after 14 days of taking up the new tariff – and any time before 11 February 2019 – then you’ll be charged exit fees of £30 per fuel.

How do I sign up?
