The UK's most desired rooms

The last few months have seen a lot of us carrying out DIY jobs and home renovations. Whether that’s giving our home some TLC, or bigger renovations to try and add some value to the property.

If money was not an issue, what would be your dream addition to your home? A cinema room? A home office? Or perhaps your own gym?

We’ve surveyed the British public, as well as analysing Google search data, to find out what are Brits’ most desired rooms.

The UK’s most desired rooms

Starting off with the results from our survey, it seems that the UK is very split on which room they would most like to see added to their home, with just over 1% splitting the three most popular responses.

In the end, it was a home gym which was most popular, with 18.9% saying that they would like their own space to work out in.

However, this was closely followed by a much more relaxing space, the home cinema room, which 18.13% said they would be keen to add, followed by a library (18.08%).

The home gym was most popular with those aged between 35 and 44, with just under 5% saying that’s the room which they’d most like to add to their home.

Those aged 35 to 44 were most likely to want to add a home cinema to their home, while those most likely to want to install their own bar were between 18 and 24.

We also looked at the number of Google searches for each type of room too, with the home bar proving to be the most popular, with 2,900 average monthly searches.

Interestingly, the second most popular search was for home swimming pools (2,400 searches), despite only 0.62% of people in our survey saying that they would like to add one.

Survey results were sourced from a survey to 2,000 people in December 2020.

Search data was sourced using Google and related to the number of average monthly searches made in the UK over the last 12 months.
