A life insurance policy pays out a lump sum to your loved ones if you die during the time you’re covered.
Terms, limits and exclusions apply. For more information, please refer to the policy document.
Nationwide offers two types of life insurance provided by its partner Legal & General:
Level cover
Level term life insurance provides a lump sum payment, for an amount that you're insured for, if you die within the policy term and if a valid claim is made and accepted. The lump sum is fixed and remains the same throughout the length of your policy.
To apply for level cover, you need to be between 18 and 77 years old.
Decreasing cover
With a decreasing term policy, the lump sum you’re insured for reduces over the length of your policy. The amount of cover reduces roughly in line with the amount you owe on your mortgage.
To apply for decreasing cover, you need to be between 18 and 74 years old.
What optional extras are available?
When you take out a life insurance policy through Nationwide, you can choose to add critical illness cover for an extra cost.
Critical illness cover will provide a lump sum pay-out if you’re diagnosed with a critical illness or injury listed in your policy. This cover is only available as an optional add-on when you take out a life insurance policy through Nationwide.
Critical illness cover also includes children’s critical illness cover, which pays out a lump sum if your child is diagnosed with one of the conditions covered in the policy or hospitalised by an accident.
Additional benefits for children’s critical illness cover include:
- Accident hospitalisation benefit
- Child funeral benefit
- Childcare benefit
- Family accommodation benefit.
To apply for level cover life insurance with critical illness cover, you need to be between 18 and 67 years old.
To apply for decreasing life insurance with critical illness cover, you need to be between 18 and 64 years old.
