The reality: Nope, 23% of people pop their valuables in their underwear drawer and 20% in their wardrobe. These are some of the first places burglars will look. Some people do still prefer to sleep on the decision though, with 12% opting to hide valuables under their bed.

3) The myth: Posting on social about your holiday is harmless

The reality: Checking into your holiday destination on Facebook is a common mistake that many of us make - it lets anyone looking to break into your home know that they’ve got the all clear for a couple of weeks.

4) The myth: Burglar alarms are too unreliable to be worth it

The reality: Even an empty burglar alarm box will act as a deterrent for an opportunist thief - it’s well worth getting a home security system installed.

The reality: Graveled paths and drives are one of the best deterrents. Most career burglars aren’t too keen on noisy approaches and getaways.
