Why choose O2?

O2 is one of the largest mobile networks in the UK, and ‘piggy backers’ Giffgaff and Tesco Mobile borrow its network space.

Here are some of the reasons why you might choose O2:

5G and 4G coverage

Although not as widespread as EE’s network, O2 provides decent 5G and 4G coverage across the country.

O2’s 5G network covers over 77% of the population, which includes thousands of towns and cities throughout the UK.

You can use O2’s Network Coverage Checker to see:

  • What network coverage is available where you live

  • The locations of the best call and mobile data receptions

  • Your nearest O2 WiFi hotspots.

O2 Priority

Looking for extra perks alongside a decent mobile or SIM-only deal? O2 mobile customers enjoy access to their exclusive rewards program, O2 Priority.

Available online or via the dedicated app, the program offers a variety of rewards and experiences, including:

  • Pre-sale tickets to events and gigs

  • Deals across restaurants, bars and retailers

  • Discounted cinema tickets

  • Access to member-only bars at O2 venues

  • Prize draws.

O2 WiFi

O2 WiFi is a free service available to anyone, offering thousands of hotspots across the UK.

But if you’re an O2 customer and have a compatible device, you can take advantage of WiFi Extra, which:

  • Kicks in automatically if the WiFi signal is stronger than the mobile network in the area.

  • Is available in ticket halls, walkways, on escalators and platforms at over 250 Tube stations – handy if you’re a London commuter.

Inclusive EU Roaming

Whether you’re an O2 pay-as-you-go or pay-monthly customer, you can roam in 45 European countries at no extra cost. Texts, calls and data allowances work in O2’s Europe Zone just like they do at home.

O2 Extras

Its pay monthly customers can enjoy an ‘extra’ from a choice that includes Amazon Music, Disney+ and Audible.

With a Classic or Plus Plan, you can get an extra free of charge for three to six months, or for the lifetime of an Ultimate Plan.

You can also pick a standalone rolling partner extra when you take out particular O2 Refresh phone, tablet and SIM-only contracts, which will be added to your monthly bill.

O2 Travel

Travelling beyond Europe? O2 Plus Plan customers get inclusive roaming in 27 destinations outside of Europe at no extra cost.

This means unlimited minutes, texts and data in O2’s Travel Inclusive Zone, which includes the USA, Australia and New Zealand.

Alternatively, O2 Travel Inclusive Zone Ultimate customers can enjoy inclusive roaming in 75 destinations outside of Europe, with unlimited minutes, texts and data in countries such as South Africa and Dubai.

If you’re not on either of these pay monthly plans, you can add the O2 Travel Bolt On for just £7 a day, which gives you unlimited minutes, texts and data in 75 destinations outside of Europe.

Matthew Brewer

What our expert says...

“If you’re a music lover, the priority tickets at big venues could be a real bonus for events that are likely to be a sell-out. But make sure your plan gives you good value all year. Some of O2’s SIM-only 5G deals are no more expensive than other providers’ 4G deals.”

FAQs

What coverage does O2 offer?

O2’s 5G network provides coverage for over 77% of the UK population while its 4G coverage is available to almost all – around 99% indoors. And when you’re out and about, you can also use its hotspots finder tool to discover the nearest free WiFi hotspot closest to you from the 16,000-plus available.

Speeds might be slower in rural areas, so check what coverage is available in your area before you sign up for an O2 plan.

How does O2 rate for customer service?

According to Ofcom’s 2025 customer service report for mobile, home broadband and landline, 85% of O2 customers were satisfied with their overall mobile service, compared to an industry average of 88%.

O2 had the lowest satisfaction ratings of 10 providers for value for money (75%), and was second from bottom for reception/signal strength (73%).

How can I contact O2?

O2 customers can phone the customer helpline on 202 for free from the UK and abroad when using a pay monthly handset. All other phones can ring 0344 809 0202 (standard charges apply).

You can also contact O2 via its website or by downloading the MyO2 app.
