Peterborough, 9th December 2025 - As Christmas approaches, Compare the Market is once again spreading festive cheer through a series of community initiatives supporting local families and older people in Peterborough. Activities this year include foodbank donations, meal vouchers for families, Christmas wrapping and card-writing sessions, and welcoming visitors from Age UK day centres.
A highlight of the season is the much-loved annual Age UK Christmas Dinner, which returned to Compare the Market’s Peterborough headquarters on Wednesday 3 December. The annual celebration brings together colleagues and older residents for an afternoon of festive food, music, games and companionship.
On the day, 60 older people who live independently and regularly attend Age UK’s day centres joined Compare the Market colleagues for a joyful afternoon designed to combat loneliness and foster community spirit. Guests sat down to a delicious two course Christmas lunch before enjoying a raffle, and a lively game of bingo. The celebration also featured a surprise visit from Compare the Market’s famous Meerkat, adding an extra touch of festive magic.
Colleagues from Compare the Market volunteered to assist the running of the event, helping to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere and ensuring each guest felt valued and included.
Sara Rolph, CSR Manager at Compare the Market, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have welcomed the Age UK day centre community back to Compare the Market for Christmas 2025. Last year’s celebration was so much fun that we couldn’t wait to do it all again. It’s such a joy to share good food, laughter, and even sing and dance together. Our colleagues love spending time with the older guests and helping to spread a little Christmas cheer at a time that can feel lonely for many.”
