The Dream Home at Christmas
At Christmas, the dream home feels warm and joyful. A glowing tree, festive garlands and candlelight set the scene indoors, while the kitchen fills with the scent of baking. Cosy bedrooms feature soft throws and twinkling lights, and the entrance shines with a wreath, lanterns and small illuminated trees. Our 2025 trend analysis reveals the decorations and styles set to define this festive season.
Autumnal Christmas – The most popular look was Autumnal Christmas, with 50,780 searches, as people swapped bright primary colours for warm amber, rust and forest tones. This trend brings an earthy, cosy feel into the home, with nature inspired ornaments, textured fabrics and soft lighting.
Soft Pink Christmas – With 26,860 searches, Soft Pink Christmas is the second biggest trend, as traditional red and green make way for blush and champagne hues. It is all about a calm, modern look, with soft metallics, glass baubles and pastel ribbons.
Harlequin Pattern Christmas – This style caters to fans of bolder, maximalist styling. Bold diamond patterns and jewel tones add a playful, vintage inspired edge, from statement tree decorations to patterned tableware.
Gothmas – Gothmas is a smaller but distinctive niche for anyone who prefers their Christmas on the moody side. Deep blacks, midnight blues and dark metallics create a dramatic, candlelit look that feels stylish and alternative.
Kitschmas – This theme keeps the fun, nostalgic side of Christmas alive. Bright colours, retro ornaments and novelty decorations come together for a playful look that celebrates the sillier, more over the top moments of the season.
Trend Insight: What Makes a Dream Home in 2026
While the nation’s dream home is rooted in timeless features like countryside views, open spaces and natural materials, it continues to evolve with the way we live. Changing lifestyles, design innovation and shifting priorities mean that what defines a “dream home” is never fixed.
Nathan Khider, Director of Nathan K Real Estate, explains: “For many people, a dream home is about comfort, functionality and character. Features like south-facing gardens, high-quality finishes and flexible living spaces remain highly sought after.”
“Location is also key. Families often prioritise good school catchments, while others value modern touches that make life easier, such as underfloor heating, integrated media walls and soft, built-in lighting that creates a calm atmosphere.”
Nathan adds that the modern dream home is increasingly defined by sustainability and ease of living.
“Many buyers now look for practical, energy-efficient homes that are ready to move into. With rising energy costs and greater eco-awareness, features like solar panels or heat pumps are becoming more desirable.” “People still draw inspiration from the luxury homes they see online or in competitions, but ultimately, they want something that feels personal, comfortable and built for everyday living,” Nathan concludes. This insight reflects a broader shift towards ready-made living, where buyers want spaces that balance aesthetic appeal with low maintenance and energy efficient design. The modern dream home is as much about how it functions as how it looks, effortless, stylish and built for the future.''
