The Money Pages: Your child’s first mobile phone – what’s the best price plan? (September 2025)

“There are two main options to consider: a SIM-only deal or a contract that includes a handset.

SIM-only plans tend to be more affordable and flexible, making them ideal if the child has access to an old device that’s no longer in use.

On the other hand, phone-inclusive contracts may be convenient when buying a new mobile with a set allowance of minutes, texts and data each month, though typically come with long-term commitments and higher monthly costs.

Comparing both options and considering your child’s needs – such as basic calling, texting, or light data use – can help you avoid overpaying.”

Sky News: Energy price cap: Typical yearly energy bill to fall by £129 from July, Ofgem announces (May 2025)

"If anyone is worried about potentially higher energy bills later this year, they could consider locking in a fixed rate deal now.

Fixed rate deals also protect you from price hikes if the oil and gas markets are volatile. Beyond your energy bills, it's important to search and compare other household bills, such as your car insurance, credit cards, or broadband, to see if you can make savings."

The Sun: Little-known code that could save you £600 a year on bills within seconds (March 2025)

“If you’re not sure if you’re still in contract, you can text the word INFO to 85075 for free. If you’re out of contract – beyond the minimum term – you could be paying too much for your phone bill.

This is when you could find some significant savings by shopping around for other deals in the market, especially if you choose a SIM-only contract.”
