“I’ve spent my whole career in insurance, starting in claims and working across almost every part of the market since. I’m passionate about an industry that supports people when they need it most, and about making insurance easier for customers to understand and compare.”
“My goal is to work with insurers across the UK market to help customers find the right product at the right price. By bringing providers together and driving healthy competition, we can give people greater choice, clearer information and more confidence in the cover they buy.”

Ursula leads Compare the Market’s commercial, customer and trading activities across its core insurance products. She works with insurers and intermediaries from across the UK market to improve the range, competitiveness and value of the products available to customers. Her remit brings together partner relationships, pricing, trading, product value, data and technology, with a focus on helping customers find cover that meets their needs at a competitive price.
Ursula co-ordinated the execution of key projects across Compare the Market. The role gave her an understanding of the end-to-end delivery process, from working with data to deliver better customer outcomes and developing products to present them through enhanced customer journeys. She uses this knowledge to explain how comparison works and how customers can look to find products that offer them the most value and savings for them and their families.
In this role, Ursula worked with insurance partners and focused on how ComparetheMarket could deliver even greater savings and prices from their insurance product comparison services. This gave her a strong understanding of why premiums can change, how insurers’ products differ and how changes in the market affect the deals customers see. She uses that experience to help customers compare cover as well as price and understand when shopping around could save them money.
As Commercial Director, Ursula led relationships with more than 200 partners and suppliers, working with them to deliver strong customer outcomes. The role deepened her understanding of how providers compete, how products are distributed and how effective partnerships can improve choice, price and value for customers.
As Commercial Director, Ursula worked closely with insurers and providers across Compare the Market. She gained a detailed understanding of how insurance products reach customers, how providers compete on price and cover, and why the deals available can differ. This helps her explain how customers can compare their options, find suitable cover and look for ways to save.
Before joining Compare the Market, Ursula held senior roles across insurance strategy, insurer and supplier development, business development and partnerships within BGL Group. She began her career supporting customers through the claims process, an experience that continues to shape her belief that customers should be able to compare not only price, but the quality of the cover and service they will receive.
Ursula began her career as a Claims Advisor, supporting customers directly through the claims process. This gave her practical experience of what insurance cover means when it is needed, how policy terms affect a claim and why choosing the right cover matters as much as finding a competitive price.
The Guardian: UK insurers to be banned from offering cheaper deals to new customers
(December 2021)
Ursula Gibbs, director at the comparison website Comparethemarket.com, said it looked as though insurers had been playing “a clever pricing game” and keeping premiums lower in recent months to try to lock in as many customers as possible before new regulations were introduced.
She said car insurance premiums had fallen by £80 a year over the past 12 months.
“There is uncertainty over what will happen to the cost of car insurance next month. While the rule changes should end the loyalty penalty, this does not mean that auto-renewing your insurance will get you the best deal,” she said.
Express: Ford owners set for car insurance discounts as 'premiums are cheaper than last year'
(November 2021)
Ursula Gibbs, director at Compare the Market said “lots of factors” affected car insurance prices. She said everything from engine size to repair costs and security features could impact the overall cost of vehicles.
She said: "Car insurance is usually one of the most expensive running costs for drivers, so most will be relieved that premiums are cheaper than last year. However, many drivers might fail to take advantage of these savings if they simply auto-renew their insurance with their current provider.
“Given the financial pressures that the increased cost of fuel is placing on many households, it’s worth shopping around to take advantage of these sorts of savings. Our research also shows that choosing the right car model can make a substantial difference to your annual premium.
“Lots of factors can influence how much a car model costs to insure, such as engine size, repair costs and security features. Normally, the bigger the engine your car has, the higher the insurance premium.”
Independent: 43% of young people considering move back into parents’ home as pandemic hits incomes
(November 2020)
Ursula Gibbs, director at Compare the Market, said: “Our data continues to show that young people have been some of the hardest hit by the pandemic, with many facing challenging employment prospects and a significant squeeze on their finances.
“For many struggling with household bills and expensive rent or mortgage payments, moving back in with their parents is the most viable option. For parents, this can have a significant financial impact, especially when the extra cost of food, heating and other day to-day living expenses are factored in."
