The main types of life insurance offered by AIG

AIG offers a wide range of life insurance, including flexible policies that can be tailored to your specific needs.

  • Life Insurance – choose between basic or more comprehensive policies, which can pay out a lump sum to your family or chosen beneficiaries if you die within the term of the cover (in other words, the period during which the policy is active). You decide on the amount of cover and you can add on critical illness and income protection to your policy.
  • Critical illness cover – this type of insurance will pay out a lump sum if you’re diagnosed with a certain illness that’s named in the policy. Critical illness insurance can be added on to a standard life policy. AIG also includes critical illness cover for any children you have, either now or in the future, as standard. Again, terms and conditions will apply so be sure to read the specific details (including any exclusions) of any critical illness policy.

  • Over 50s Life Plan – a policy aimed at those who might no longer have large financial burdens, such as a young family or a large mortgage. Over 50s life insurance provides a lump sum to your family after you die.
  • Whole of life – this type of cover typically guarantees a pay-out when you die. This type of policy tends to be more expensive, because the insurance provider knows it’ll have to pay out eventually.
  • Start Range – offers life cover at a lower initial cost than other policies, and could be a more affordable option when you’re younger.
  • Instant life insurance – this policy pays out if you die or suffer from a terminal illness while you’re insured. Features of this policy include: a quick and simple online application service; you’ll be told quickly if they can offer you insurance based on the answers you give them about your health and history; finally, you won’t be asked to provide for any medical evidence during your application.

What other benefits are offered by AIG life insurance?

In addition to providing financial support to their customers, AIG offers two extra benefits that are included in many of their life insurance policies (but not all, so make sure you check first).

Best Doctors – if you or a family member get diagnosed with a serious illness, this service could provide you with a second opinion from professional medical experts. The Best Doctors service will review of your diagnosis and medical case, and provide further recommendations for medical treatment. What’s more, customers who have a critical illness policy can enjoy access the service for three years following a claim. This could enable you to access important follow-up support to help manage and live with the after-effects of treatment.

Winston’s Wish – by partnering with Winston’s Wish, the childhood bereavement charity, AIG gives crucial support to the family of a policyholder who dies or is diagnosed with a terminal illness. The support offered by Winston’s Wish includes online resources, a telephone helpline, professional face-to-face support and group work. The service isn’t available with its Whole of Life, Care Cover with Whole of Life Insurance, or Business Protection products.
