What types of life insurance can I get with Legal & General?

Legal & General offers the following types of life insurance policies:

  • Level term life insurance
This type of cover pays out a lump sum if you die within the policy term. Your monthly premiums will stay the same unless you make a change to your policy.
  • Decreasing term life insurance
Designed to cover a repayment mortgage. The amount you’re covered for decreases roughly in line with the way a repayment mortgage decreases.
  • Increasing term life insurance
A type of cover designed to protect against inflation and the rising cost of living. Premiums are higher and can increase, but it does mean your pay-out increases over time.
  • Over-50s life insurance
Specifically designed for people aged 50-80. The cash sum is guaranteed and there’s no need for a medical.

Life insurance from Legal & General can be bought as a single policy or a joint policy.

When you choose a level term or decreasing term policy, Legal & General include the following features as standard:

Accidental death benefit

Receive short-term cover while your life insurance application is being processed.

Terminal illness cover

An early pay-out if you’re diagnosed with a terminal illness and your life expectancy is less than 12 months.

Free life cover

Free life cover between exchange of contracts and completion if you’re buying life insurance to cover your mortgage.

Wellbeing support

Access to registered nurses offering support for your wellbeing and mental health as often as you need.

Care Concierge

Free access to a team of care experts who can help you or your loved ones on all aspects of later life care.

Advance funeral payment

Families can receive an advance payment of up to £10,000 to help cover funeral costs if probate is delayed.

What optional extras are available?

Critical illness cover can be added to level term or decreasing term policies for an additional cost. The cash sum pay-out can provide essential financial support if you’re diagnosed with a critical illness or injury that your policy covers.

Legal & General’s critical illness cover also includes child critical illness cover as standard.

Legal & General offers a waiver of premium option for an additional cost. This means premium payments won’t need to be paid after 26 weeks if the person covered can’t work because of illness or injury.

These optional extras can only be added at the start of your policy.
