What is insurance group 5?

Car insurance group 5 is one of the lowest groups, so vehicles in this category tend to be cheaper to insure. They typically have a small engine size and are at the cheaper end of the market to buy.

Group 5 insurance cars also have good safety and security features, making them less of a risk to insure. When they do need repairs, parts are usually easy to come by and relatively inexpensive.

Car insurance group numbers run from 1 to 50, with 50 being the most expensive. So having a group 5 car could help you keep costs down.

Is insurance group 5 expensive?

Cars in group 5 are on the cheaper side when it comes to the cost of motor insurance. Although the very cheapest cars to insure are in groups 1 to 4, group 5 insurance is still affordable compared with higher groups.

Because the cost of repairs to group 5 cars is relatively low, insurance providers typically won’t have to pay out as much for a claim compared with a car in a higher insurance category. This helps to keep premiums down.

What is insurance group 5e?

Each car is assigned a letter alongside its insurance group number. This tells you the vehicle’s safety rating.

An ‘e’ means your vehicle surpasses the standard security requirements for its insurance group and has had its rating upgraded. So, a group 5 car that features outstanding levels of security would be upgraded to 5e.

Who are insurance group 5 cars most suitable for?

A group 5 car could be a good fit for you if you’re more concerned about cost than the power or performance of your car’s engine. That’s because vehicles in this category are at the lower end of the market to buy and insure.

Group 5 insurance cars are ideal for those on a budget or younger drivers already facing higher premiums who want to make savings where they can.

But remember, the car you drive is only one factor affecting the cost of your car insurance. Other details will be taken into account too, including your age, where you live and your job.
