Citroën C3 car insurance

Why choose a Citroën C3?

If you’re looking for a supermini with stylish flourishes and a wide range of personalisation options, the Citroën C3 could be the car for you. From the paint-protecting ‘air bumps’ on the doors (not available on the You! trim) to the 97 colour combinations and contrasting roof colours, the C3 is a pocket-sized car with added personality.

It’s not all pretty paintwork and distinctive design, though. Citroën has moved key vehicle functions, as well as in-car entertainment, onto the fitted touchscreen to create a stripped-back dash that’s practical too. Plus, with a reversing camera, autonomous emergency braking and a driver attention alert system on the Shine Plus, the Citroën C3 throws in some of the modern conveniences you might not expect.

The third-generation C3 is fitted with Advanced Comfort seats too, to provide ‘armchair-like’ comfort while you drive. A driver’s armrest and the option of a panoramic sunroof are all part of the plan to create an extension of the home – albeit on four wheels.

What insurance group is my Citroen Ami in?

As the Citroen Ami is classed as a quadricycle, it isn’t placed in any of the car insurance groups.

This doesn’t mean you can drive it without insurance, though.

Even though it’s a one-of-a-kind, we can help you shop around for a specialist motor insurance quote. But there may be fewer providers to choose from compared with other small cars. Citroen UK also offers comprehensive insurance policies specifically tailored to the Citroen Ami.

What affects the cost of my Citroen Ami insurance?

While the Citroen Ami doesn’t fit into a car insurance group, there are other factors that will determine the cost of your insurance premium. These include:

  • Your age
  • Your address
  • Your annual mileage
  • Your driving history
  • Where you park your Citroen Ami overnight.

These are examples of premiums for Citroen Ami models at the bottom, middle and top of the range:

  • Entry level: Ami
  • Mid-range: My Ami Pop
  • Top-of-the-range: My Ami Tonic

We can help you find a range of quotes for your Citroen Ami motor insurance based on your personal circumstances, so you can find a deal that works for you.

What cover do I need for my Citroen AMI?

The levels of cover you can choose for your Citroen Ami are the same as any other type of vehicle insurance:

  • Third-party only – the most basic type of cover and the legal minimum you’ll need to drive on UK public roads. It covers injuries or damage to other people or their vehicles, but not to you or your Citroen Ami
  • Third-party, fire and theft – includes basic third-party cover, as well as cover for your Citroen Ami against fire damage and theft
  • Comprehensive policies – the highest level of cover. As well as damage and injuries to others, it will also cover you and your Citroen Ami.

Don’t just assume that comprehensive will be the most expensive type of cover. That’s why it’s a good idea to compare a range of quotes. You may be able to find a higher level of cover for your Citroen Ami at a cheaper price.

What extras can I add to my Citroën C3 car insurance policy?

If you’d like Citroën C3 car insurance that covers all the bases, you might want to pay to add these extras to your policy:

Breakdown cover

Includes roadside assistance from a trained mechanic and recovery to a local garage.

Personal belongings cover

Personal belongings cover is sometimes known as personal possessions cover and could help to cover the cost of items taken forcibly from your car.

Personal accident insurance

Personal accident insurance could pay out if you, your partner or passengers are killed or seriously injured in a car accident.

Motor legal protection

Motor legal protection may be offered as standard in your policy. This could help cover you for legal expenses that arise from a car accident that wasn’t your fault.

Windscreen cover

Windscreen cover is used to cover replacement or repair costs when your car windscreen is damaged.

Lost keys cover

Lost keys cover doesn’t just cover the cost of replacing and reprogramming your keys if they’re lost or stolen. It could also cover the cost of replacing locks and resetting the immobiliser.

Courtesy car cover

Courtesy car insurance for peace of mind that you’ll get a replacement vehicle if your Citroën C3 is being repaired.

European breakdown cover

European breakdown works like breakdown cover but across Europe. Access to an English-speaking 24-hour helpline may be included.

No-claims bonus protection

Make sure you have this if you want to protect your no-claims discount when you next make a claim.

Misfuelling

Misfuelling could help to cover the cost of draining the wrong type of fuel from your car and the cost of repairs.

Frequently asked questions

What licence do I need to drive a Citroen Ami?

As the Citroen Ami is classed as a quadricycle, you’ll need an AM category licence or full UK driving licence (B) to drive one.

Do I need to pay annual VED road tax on a Citroen Ami?

Nope, the all-electric Citroen Ami is exempt from VED road tax. And zero CO2 emissions means you can breathe easy on big city streets as there’s no congestion charge or ULEZ to pay either.

How do I charge my Citroen Ami?

According to the official UK Citroen website, it takes four hours to fully charge a Citroen Ami.

Simply plug the cable into a regular three-pin plug socket at home and charge it in the same way as your smartphone. If you have an ‘off-peak’ electricity tariff, it could work out cheaper to leave your Ami charging overnight.

The Citroen Ami also comes with a type 2 adaptor for charging when you’re out and about.

Is a Citroen Ami safe?

The Citroen Ami doesn’t have any of the standard safety features such as air bags and ABS brakes that you’d get in a normal car.

And because it’s not technically a car, it doesn’t have a Euro NCAP safety rating.

That said, a Citroen Ami does offer more protection and stability than a moped or scooter. And with a top speed of 28mph, there’s no great danger of you going over the speed limit.
