Who are Lamborghini?
The history of these Italian supercars officially starts in 1963, when Ferrucio Lamborghini decided to take on Ferrari and present the 350 GTV. Then in 1966 the company really made its mark with the Miura sports coupé.
Despite going bankrupt in 1978, the cars went on to become the celebrity vehicle of choice, referenced by everyone from Britney to Kanye. Kim Kardashian reportedly bought Kanye an Aventador for his 36th birthday, even though he already has a white Gallardo.
She chose well: the Aventador is the fastest Lamborghini ever, doing 0-60 in 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 217mph. Other famous Lamborghini owners include Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson and Pierce Brosnan. So, you won’t be surprised to learn these cars don’t come cheap
The Lamborghini name is linked not only to the world of celebrity, but also to bullfighting. The raging bull is the brand emblem, and many models are named for bull breeds.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a Lamborghini cost to insure?
How much you’ll pay for your premium depends partly on what insurance group the car sits in. As a rule, the lower the insurance group number, the lower the premium.
The bad news is that even basic Lamborghinis are insurance group 20, with the Aventador right at the top end in group 50. If you didn’t already guess, that means they’re expensive to insure. The carbon-fibre chassis and bodywork cost serious money to replace if you have an accident, and considering the speeds these cars can do, that’s always a possibility.
If you’re under 25, it’s going to be an uphill struggle to insure the car at all, but everything is possible if your pockets are deep enough.
Older Lamborghinis have depreciated to the point that they can almost be classed as affordable – the average quote our customers have been offered is:
Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder: average premium £1,576.31 per year**
**Average price amount based on the top five quotes from Compare the Market data from 1 December 2019 to 1 March 2020. The average is based on all variations of the vehicle model and uses risk data from people with different age ranges, addresses and driving histories. You may find a cheaper or more expensive quote based on your circumstances.
Can I cut the cost of my Lamborghini insurance?
You’ll need secure parking, and an effective and approved tracker. Lamborghinis are a dream car for everyone – including car thieves. If an Aventador Roadster is parked on the street it’s seriously attractive to organised criminals, who could ship it out of the country.
But each insurance provider calculates risk in their own way, so while you might find a great deal with insurance provider A, your neighbour might find a better deal with insurance provider B. There are many factors to consider, such as where you live, how old you are, and how much driving experience you have.
