What’s the history to the Ducati business?

The Ducati empire was founded in 1926 by Antonio Cavalieri Ducati and his three sons. At the time, they couldn’t have known their name would become such a legend in the biking world.

The Ducati business began by producing quality radio equipment. It grew rapidly, building a huge complex in Bologna in 1935 and opening offices around the world, including branches in London, Paris, New York and Sydney.

The brothers spent the war years studying and planning new products, and in 1946 they released a small motor for bicycles. It caught on, and soon the Ducati motorbike brand was launched.

Through the 1950s and 1960s Ducati developed its road bikes and introduced new engines. Japanese bike competition in the late 1960s and early 1970s prompted a boom in so-called maxibikes and Ducati stepped up to the plate.

In 1972, Ducati found racing success. The legendary driver Mike Hailwood, who’d long been a fan of Ducati, won the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy on a Ducati in 1978.

Over the following decades, new engines and models continued to please fans. Most recently, the production of new and technologically advanced models, such as the Multistrada 1200, the Diavel, the Panigale and the Scrambler have brought the love of Ducati to a new legion of fans.
