Frequently asked questions

What’s the history behind Suzuki?

The Suzuki brand started with weaving looms back in 1909 when Michio Suzuki opened his first factory in Hamamatsu, Japan. Motorised bikes didn’t make an appearance until 1952, when Suzuki created a 36cc, two-stroke engine that was attached to the frame of a conventional bicycle.

In 1978 the GS1000 was produced with its first four-cylinder model with a 997cc inline engine putting out at 88bhp.

Flash forward to the present day, the Suzuki brand is known for its performance racing bikes with world-class winners and superb performance, on and off the track.

What motorbikes does Suzuki make?

From the Super Sport GSX-R100R, to the Ultimate Sport Hayabusa and V-STROM series plus their line of Burgman scooters, Suzuki has a range of bikes to suit all riders. They even have motocross models.

With so many different models and insurance providers it pays to shop around.

What should I consider when choosing insurance for my Suzuki?

The cover you choose depends on your bike and your needs. For example do you need fully comprehensive or just third party? You might think that comprehensive insurance costs more, but that is not always the case, so it is worth comparing quotes. You will also need to think about when and how you will use your bike. Will you use it to commute to work or just for pleasure, or will you ride it for business purposes?

Once you have worked out the key decisions then you need to consider what additional cover is right for you. It's worth checking carefully what comes as standard and what is an add-on as this can vary between insurance providers. Think about whether you want these kinds of options included:

  • Breakdown cover – if your bike breaks down, you’ll be covered for roadside assistance.
  • Legal expenses insurance – if you’re involved in a road accident and need to make a claim, or if a driver makes a claim against you, this option could cover all or some of the legal costs.
  • No claims discount – with this cover you won’t lose your no claims bonus, even if you make a claim.
  • Personal accident cover – if you’re injured in an accident, this could help you get a payout.
  • Helmet and leathers cover – your gear isn’t cheap, so if it gets damaged in an accident this cover can help you with buying replacements.

What will affect the price of my Suzuki motorcycle insurance?

There are a few different factors that go into pricing your motorcycle insurance. These include where you live, your annual mileage and your riding experience. See more on how bike insurance is calculated.
